Tips1 : What is a maf sensor ?
MAF SENSOR also known as Mass Air Flow Meter/ Air Flow Sensor/ Air Mass Meter/ Air Mass Sensor. It
s the device used in many fuel injected engines to measure the amount of air entering the engine so the onboard computer (ECU) can calculate the correct air/fuel mixture ratio to enter the combustion chambers. Located ahead of the throttle body, after the air filter, the MAF sensor uses a heated wire or filament/film to measure the air flow.
Unsteady Idle AKA "hunting" (car revving up by around 1000rpm itself then dropping back down
Reduced drivability, cutting out when the engine speed drops. e.g. approaching bends
Loss of power, turbo lag on turbo applications
Excessive black smoke on diesel applications
Reduced fuel economy and lumpy running
Can feel like you're hitting a rev limiter too early
Typically air flow sensors can go faulty every 40,000 miles,this is due them getting clogged up with dirt within the induction system. Using general cleaning equipment such as carburettor and throttle body cleaner for maintenance will shorten the life of the sensor is only a temporary fix and is not a long term solution. It can in some cases cause more damage.
